Summary


The man's name was Bill Sianis, and he was nicknamed "Billy Goat" because of his white goatee. Sianis, who owned a tavern later made famous by John Belushi in the "Cheeseburger, cheeseburger" skits on Saturday Night Live, liked taking his pet goat, Murphy, to Cubs games. Sianis and Murphy never encountered any problems until that fateful day, October 6, 1945. Even though Sianis had purchased box-seat tickets for Murphy and himself, Sianis was denied entrance by ushers.

Curses! Cubs, Red Sox to Rule

The exorcisms are complete. Cubs fans blew up the Steve Bartman ball. Red Sox fans all but burned Grady Little at the stake. Talk of the supernatural-of billy goats and black cats and Bambinos-must now cease.

This ... is ... the ... year.

The Cubs will reach their first World Series since 1945 and win their first since 1908, with Bartman and manager Dusty Baker riding twin billy goats down Michigan Avenue in the victory parade.

The Red Sox will extend their Series championship drought to 86 years by falling in the Curse Classic, but they, too, will be liberated after beating the Yankees in the American League Championship Series, re-signing Pedro Martinez and Nomar Garciaparra and sensing, once and for all, that the end of their misery is near...
